Abstract

Objective: to calculate the cardiovascular risk (CVR) in adults living with Type 2 diabetes (T2D) from a Primary Care centre in Tizimín (Yucatán, Mexico).
Method: a retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive study. Data were retrieved from secondary sources (registration cards) from users who attend a Primary Care centre for follow-up and control of their diabetes. Their CVR was calculated through calculator with the criteria from the CVR prediction tables by the World Health Organization / Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO), which allows estimating the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) at 10 years in the >40-year-old population. Results were presented through descriptive statistics, using SPSS statistics version 25.
Results: the analysis included 300 registration cards; 75.6% (227) of patients were female and 24.4% (73) were male; between 40 and 75 years of age, 58% (174) with overweight or obesity; 68% (204) presented uncontrolled glycosylated haemoglobin (? 7%) and 34% (102) had uncontrolled cholesterol (? 200 mg/dL). There was a prevalence of Moderate CVR, with 46% (138), followed by High with 30% (90) and Low with 24% (72).
Conclusions: the CVR of adults with T2D from the Primary Care Centre at Tizimín was Moderate, High and Low, in that order. The calculator is useful in Primary Care in order to stratify CVR in persons with T2D.
