Abstract

Global health is defined as “the human health and the status of the natural ecosystems it depends upon”, because the environment and its contamination have impact on the health of persons, either direct or indirectly. As Family and Community doctors, we cannot be unaware of anything that impacts the health of our patients; that is why we must get involved and incorporate the perspective of global health into our daily practice. For example, when conducting anamnesis, by using specific tools that allow to address the environmental risks to which our patients are exposed. Or at the time of managing certain conditions, such as those caused and/or exacerbated by air contamination or extreme temperatures, diseases transmitted by vectors, or changes in pollen patterns with impact on allergies. To make all this possible, it is essential to establish an alliance with Public Health, which allows to access updated data of the environmental scenario in our areas of practice, as well as protocols of action for prevention and management, Public Health programs with national, regional and local scope, and tools that allow to influence the political setting and improve healthcare practice.
