Abstract

Objective: to define and explain the main consequences of human exposure to endocrine disruptors and microplastics, showing the critical role played by nurses in health prevention and the reduction in the exposure of the population to this type of substances.
Method: a bibliographic review of literature during December 2023 and January 2024 in the PubMed database for the past five years. No significant publications from previous years were excluded.
Results: there was a selection of 113 studies showing how endocrine disruptors have been used so massively that they are currently omnipresent, and how this continuous exposure has led to multiple consequences for human health.
Conclusions: due to the general presence of endocrine disruptors and micro and nanoplastics, and their massive effects on human health, the involvement of health professionals is essential in this setting. Nurse training in this setting could have impact on future generations and the fate of the human species.
