Abstract

Objective: to describe the updated multidisciplinary interventions addressing health determinants in adult persons living with Type 2 diabetes. Methods: an integrative review based on PRISMA guidelines; a systematic search was conducted in EBSCOHost, Dialnet, and Dimensions. The key words were “social health determinants” AND “Type 2 diabetes” AND “multidisciplinary team”. Articles with complete text in English and Spanish were included, that were published between August 2023 and March 2024; The CASPe tool was used for analysis. Results: ten (10) studies were included: four clinical trials, one cohort study, and five descriptive studies. Seven articles were in English and three in Spanish. The articles were from the following countries: Mexico, Iran, United States, China, Colombia, Spain and Australia. The years were: 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023. Conclusion: educational interventions were statistically associated with intermediate determinants in persons with Type 2 diabetes, and their results were beneficial for the population in terms of glycemic control. The professional team conducting the interventions was formed by nurses, social workers, physicians, psychologists, nutritionists and diabetes educators. It was suggested to conduct studies involving public policies, incorporating strategies and recommendations focused on health determinants, mainly in rural areas, in order to reduce the inequalities and inequities that place this population at a disadvantage.
