Metasynthesis, a new perspective of analysis of an intellectual critique of social health care research

Abstract
Research is one of nursing major forces, and the knowledge generated therefrom leads to movements and changes in clinical practice and in on-going training, as well as in social health care policies. Critique in research is an essential step towards a formal evidence-based practice deeply rooted in the good work of the profession.
If the Scientific Evidence is the form initially adopted by this synthesis and criticism movement in Health Sciences, the term «Metasynthesis» is the general concept that several authors have conceived to refer to an open knowledge system that intends to integrate data, theories, methods, findings and any other type of knowledge or information to give an answer to complex issues. This idea of knowledge provided by metasynthesis is the new path towards which the search for evidence should be addressed, overcoming reductionist positions that distort reality. Metasynthesis explicitly assumes the possibility to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative findings already published. Nurses, in the current cultural and linguistic context, have an increasing need to look for an answer to many of the complex issues surrounding healthcare practice, above all to those having sociocultural dimensions or accounting for the heterogeneity of human responses in health-disease processes.
