Abstract

The unification of the nursing language provides a common language ground for communication amongst nursing professionals at different health care levels. Nursing diagnosis give us the benefit of this common language but are not yet utilised worldwide in the day-to-day practice.
To have a classification of nursing diagnoses in the same order in which patient assessment is performed largely favours the identification and utilisation of such.
Given that in socio-sanitary healthcare centres, patient or resident assessment is carried out by means of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI), a working group from the “Antic Hospital de Sant Jaume I Sta Magdalena” has carried out a classification of the nursing diagnosis (NANDA taxonomy), according to the RAI assessment patterns.
This paper describes the methodology for the elaboration of such classification, the relationship of the selected and classified nursing diagnoses and a conversion table showing the diagnostic labels for taxonomy II, the diagnostic code corresponding to such taxonomy, the page found, the definition and definitory characteristics6, the code for taxonomy I and the code given in this new classification.
