Abstract

All experts agree that exercising in a orderly, moderate, progressive and continued manner contributes to the promotion and maintenance of health and that in some diseases is, together with other therapies, an effective way of treatment.

Continued exercise from the very early stages of life is the best way to decrease risk factors that lead to diseases that might later on in life cause the premature death of many individuals, contributing to shorten the life of other subjects and adding to the expenditure of the healthcare system.

Time and motivation is required to change life styles that are damaging to health. This not only requires an effort on the part of the people that need to change these habits but also an effort on the part of the healthcare professionals, as a willingness to help is necessary.
