Abstract
An educational intervention was carried out the objective of which was to modify knowledge on ethics and bioethics at the university medical centre “Policlínico Docente José Martí Pérez", of the Gibara municipality, in the period of time from January to June 2007. The study universe was composed of all the nurses (both males and females) who work at the mentioned centre, of which a sample with 81.39% was gathered, and from which, the final 70 respondents were chosen.
Prior informed consent was obtained from the chosen subjects and these were then given a test on the topics included in the intervention in order to measure the level of knowledge on the assessed themes before and after the intervention. A programmed of activities was elaborated which ensure active participation in the acquisition of knowledge.
There was a predominance of females predominated in the study sample, predominant age group was 20 to 3o years of age, predominant occupational status was a registered nurse; over half of the respondents had between 5 and 10 years of experience. The educational intervention was considered as satisfactory. Based on the results, we concluded that ethical and bioethical principles bear a special connotation in the performance of nursing personnel.
