Abstract

In the last decade, the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí has launched the educational innovation programme with the intention of addressing the employment, social, economic and political situation that our graduates are currently faced with and which differs from the situation of previous generations.  Educational programmes are currently focused on the student, the context and the surrounding social reality; not on contents or obsolete teaching methods.  This article aims to share the experiences of teachers and students regarding the application of project-aimed learning (PAL) in the course Community Nursing Foundation by performing a community health diagnosis.  After the implementation of this methodology, the teacher becomes more a companion in the knowledge construction process than an evaluator, and learns to recognize that academic results are not as relevant as the process that the students experience from the moment they learn about the task to be performed, how they become involved in it, the participation they engage in, how they resolve problems and learn to make informed decisions, how they obtain and incorporate information within their reference framework and how they commit to themselves, to the project and to other colleagues by means of collaborative work.
