Abstract

At present the increase in quality of life and the progressive ageing of the population prompted by an improvement in scientific-technological in health is calling for renewed nursing care based on old nursing theories to improve the quality of care.
Today´s society presents certain characteristics to which a nursing model must adapt. Such nursing model should improve patient care focusing on the care of the individual in an integral manner and his or her reactions when faces with a health problem.
Presently, the student who will be delivering care must get trained taking into account patient individuality, the perception of health and disease of each patient, the objectives and results that patients seek, and the need to assess the individual in the three dimensions: biological, psychological and social. It is only in this way that the future professionals will provide quality to healthcare and that is the new approach upon which training should focus.
