Abstract

In recent years the teaching-learning process in universities in Cuba has undergone profound transformations accompanied by the presence in our classrooms of students of all ages, social background and from all around the world, following the principles of internationalization and globalization of education. In Cuba, this is a relatively new educational phenomenon, so this article is designed to assess the impact of multicultural contexts in shaping the nursing workforce, for which theoretical methods were used that allowed the analysis of the literature and exploration of the background. The sources that were consulted stressed that the presence in the classrooms of students from different cultures promotes the exchange and stimulates the process of assimilation of content. Attention to cultural differences could be a significant tool for human betterment, development of skills that will enable nursing students to be creatively flexible and to adapt to diverse environments and to cultivate attitudes such as humility, empathy, respect and sensitivity. On the other hand, intercultural education enables the development of a learner-centered pedagogy with different levels of learning and cultural backgrounds, creating new challenges to the teaching staff to be prepared to face it effectively.
