Abstract

Gastroesophageal reflux is a disorder which requires a special education of parents as part of the treatment. This fact, coupled with various studies which have shown the importance of written words in the education of patients, make us want to know the opinion of nurses about the need for writing documents to supplement written oral education on reflux.
Methods: cross-sectional descriptive study (review of medical records and self-administered survey ad hoc prepared for nurses in the Txagorritxu Vitoria-Gasteiz Hospital's neonatal unit).
Results: 60,4% of the revised histories recorded oral education, while only 8,4% recorded the administration of educational support in writing. The entire nursing staff surveyed sees the need to use written documentation to supplement the oral education on gastroesophageal reflux.
Conclusions: nurses considered it important to include printed material in the education process. There is a discrepancy between what was said by staff and recorded in the clinical record.
