Abstract

Introduction: one of the active methodologies in universities within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) frame work is the development of work by students. The clinical research is a completely original type of work of that nursing students on clinical practice can develop. We intend to evaluate the usefulness of this type of work for 2nd and 3rd grade nursing students.
Material and methods: we raised the possibility of conducting a research to nursing students during the academic years 2007-2008-2009 in their traineeship. Students who chose to do so were giving lessons to explain the basic steps to outline a research project. A protocol was designed to collect data that students completed during their placement. The results were analyzed and sent to congresses of students.
Results: 10% of students showed interest in conducting a research. 12 works were performed: 1 was conducted by three students in 06-07, 7 were conducted by 15 students in 2007-2008 and 4 were conducted by 6 students in 08-09. All works (12) were selected for oral presentation at conferences and five of them were published. The experience was considered very positive by all participating students.
Conclusions: conducting research in clinical practice is a good form of active learning methodology. Should be reserved for students with some basis and requires continuous involvement by the teacher and pupils.
