Abstract
Material and method: the subject of Cultural and Health Anthropology allows, through its evaluation system, the presentation of works by students in the context of clinical practice and/or their professional activity. The activity consisted of the presentation and discussion of a study conducted in La Cañada Real, one of the slums of Madrid. This work was also presented in two Health Centers (Centro de salud "El Álamo" in El Álamo and Centro de salud "Parque Europa" in Pinto), in the context of primary care practices.
Results:a retrospective descriptive study conducted by the authors, along with two other colleagues was presented. This study refers to 244 emergency interventions carried out in La Cañada Real. The group of students from 2nd year of nursing degree has valued highly the transmission of a specific experience by two classmates, considering that this method Fosters better the acquisition of knowledge than traditional methodologies. They have been able to see first hand the implications of an emergency intervention in a context of strong cultural diversity and marginality without the large distortion from the media discourse.
Conclusions: the experience of nursing students who are health workers (in this case of parademics) enriches all students and creates really good dynamics for the acquisition of the teamwork competence. On the other hand, knowledge of the health problems of a marginal settlement helps students being aware of the difficulties and barriers of prejudice and social stereotypes assigned to little or non-conventional ways of life.
