Abstract

Objective: to know the views of cancer patients on the communication between them and the nurses who care for them in the hospital ward. This is a descriptive qualitative study using an interview with each of 5 patients selected in the oncology unit of the Hospital Juan Ramón Jiménez of Huelva.
The technique used for data collection was a structured interview, developing a script to collect the necessary data for the study. Among the findings it can be highlighted that in terms of professional identification when the patient is admitted and the initial greeting before each entry into the room, all the patients except one agreed that nurses identified themselves and greet them, they all agree that nursing staff listen to their patients at all times, as well as service thy providers capture the feelings of patients and lastly they highly appreciate the knowledge of the professional responses to the questions they asked.
Conclusions: the patients think that the communication of nurses is adequate.
