Abstract

The concept of mentor and mentoring has changed in terms of the historical timing and the conception of the teaching model. In the Anglo-Saxon model of mentoring, the mentor is the teacher who accompanies the student in their learning as a person. This model is consistent with the European Higher Education Area. The purpose of mentoring can be teaching, academic, personal guidance and/or professional, with no clear boundaries sometimes between them. The customs and traditions of Spanish university teachers will require an effort to adapt the teaching role to the new context. Studies indicate that nursing students make little use of mentoring and generally they do it in relation to academic questions and review of exams, in line with the results of students from other areas. In general, teachers and students agree on the importance and value of mentoring in college, but it is important to clarify the usefulness of mentoring, the what is it for, to facilitate its development and implementation, the how to do it, and what the content of interest to students nursing is, the what.
