Abstract

Objective: to determine the degree of patient satisfaction of care provided by nursing professionals in the hematology-oncology ward.
Design: descriptive qualitative study.
Study population: 10 patients in the hematology-oncology ward.
Data collection technique: a structured interview.
Data analysis: the transcript of the interview was literal.
Results: all patients agreed that the professional nurses address them with kindness and courtesy and they show trust and confidence, inform about and explain the care they will provide, and have sufficient experience and knowledge to manage autologous transplant patients. They all agree nurses act quickly when needed, except for three of the patients and, finally, communication skills of nursing professionals are highly valued.
Conclusions: autologous transplant patients are satisfied with nursing professionals, as these are addressed with kindness and courtesy, show confidence and trust, inform about and explain the care provided, have knowledge and experience to manage the autologous transplant patient and have a good ability to communicate with such patients.
