Abstract

Chest pain units started in Spain in 2000. Most of them are functional units attached to the ED.

After twelve years of operation, the research papers have been mostly aimed at compliance and assessment in the medical field using parameters recommended by the Spanish Society of Cardiology.

However, no progress has been shown with regard to the operation from the nursing perspective; ignoring the important role performed by nurses with patients.
Also due to the special characteristics of care in emergency services implementing a nursing methodology in these units has been forgotten.

The objective of this work is to create a nursing protocol that is realizable and support the operation of the emergency department. The nursing process begins with the initial patient assessment by Marjory Gordon\'s Functional Patterns. We rely on the NANDA taxonomy, the NOC classification results and NIC nursing interventions. The result is a nursing protocol created based on methodology and which can be applied to the emergency unit.

Diagnoses on which we work are: fear, severe pain, poor management of their own health and lack of knowledge about their situation or condition. To develop it we considered multidisciplinary and comprehensive care to the patient, coordination with other hospital units, the logging of medical and nursing activities and care agility.
