Abstract

Purpose: Lowering blood pressure values to below 140/90, in order to achieve a better control and reduce cardiovascular risk factors, and thus prevent cardiovascular diseases.
Material and methods: study population: patients referred by their family doctors to a nursing practice for blood pressure monitoring and follow-up. Information workshops on diet and healthy lifestyle were conducted, slides were showed, a diet sheet was given,...
Results: A blood pressure reduction was achieved, with even normal values being found in some patients. All participants were able to develop a healthy lifestyle.
Conclusions: Combining a heart healthy diet (Mediterranean diet) with some daily physical activity and smoking avoidance results in a blood pressure reduction of a varying size.
