Abstract

Early attention to and implementing of survival measures lead to a substantially improved prognosis in people suffering an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. A number of authors suggest that an intervention to teach basic life support at a secondary-school age could result in a clear-cut benefit in terms of self-confidence, knowledge, and willingness.

The present educational intervention aimed at training 11 to 12-year old children in recognizing a cardiac arrest and implementing an appropriate life support protocol.

Some key issues regarding the educational intervention and outcomes evaluation criteria (attitudes, knowledge, and skills) are described.
