Abstract

When we listen to people, we are letting them know that we are taking them seriously, that we respect them, that we are paying attention, we are sympathising with them… Listening to people makes us see people as they really are. Because of this, it is important to listen, both at a personal and professional level.
This article is subdivided into three sections: the first section focuses on the conceptual area of listening and the other two sections describe several studies. The first of these studies talks about the satisfaction that an individual feels when he or she is being listened to, while the second makes reference to a personal experience in a healthcare setting where the speaker is not listened to, which is not published in its entirety due to its considerable length
