Abstract

Introduction: during recent years, there has been a major effective change in normal childbirth care from the healthcare point of view, replacing the interventionist model from previous decades for a lower intervention during childbirth, where the woman will really have the central role. This has required many changes, where expectations joined with woman involvement are essential, together with a change in care model and coadjuvant changes in the hospital environment for delivery and childbirth.
Objective: primarily, to understand the level of satisfaction among the users of this healthcare area, in terms of care for the delivery and puerperium process. Secondarily, to find out any areas of improvement in healthcare; this will be closely linked with understanding if we are answering the demands of users regarding their childbirth expectations; and finally, to obtain a socio-demographical map of our users.
Methodology: the validated COMFORTS scale was used, with some additional sociodemographical variables, out of self-interest, in order to obtain a profile of the users of this service. A descriptive design was selected in order to show the results obtained. Data were collected in puerperium consultations through Primary Care midwives, and in hospital puerperium.
The target population included all postpartum women with live newborns using this service, regardless of type of delivery, during the collection period determined by the team (from November, 2016 to February, 2018). For the sample, 265 surveys were collected and accepted as valid, even though some item had not been answered.
Results/conclusions: due to the extent of results, the complete article should be read in detail. The conclusion is that the overall result of surveys confirms that users have a good perception of the changes made both in physical spaces and in healthcare processes; this states the importance of a user satisfaction survey as a tool necessary for an improvement in the quality and effectiveness of the services provided.
