Abstract

Psychological changes during pregnancy and post-partum: recent scientific evidence about their manifestations in Iberoamerican women Introduction: psychology during pregnancy and postpartum is an essential area for professionals managing women during this process; however, the real changes during this period are still not understood Objective: to analyse the scientific evidence on changes in the psychology of women during the pregnancy-postpartum process in Ibero-America from 2011 to 2019, with the aim to offer an update on this subject. Methodology: a bibliographic review considering research from primary sources and medical articles from Scielo, MEDLINE Complete, Dialnet Plus, Lilacs, Fuente Académica Plus and Index Psicología (years 2011 to 2019), alongside relevant bibliography for the context framework of the study. Results: after the analysis, the feelings that stood out were affective ambivalence and fear during pregnancy, as well as feelings of anxiety and guilt during the post-partum period. Finally, psychological changes were generated due to a set of experiences and modifications characteristic of this period. Conclusions: to address the psychological needs of women during pregnancy and postpartum is essential for their emotional comfort during these life periods. Understanding and support by midwives throughout these periods will be decisive to achieve an adequate emotional status and without over-exposure to emotional risks with impact on the health of women and their children.
