Abstract

Normal birth with velamentous umbilical cord insertion. Case report
Purpose: velamentous umbilical cord insertion occurs in 0.09-1.8% of single pregnancies and is usually undiagnosed before birth; it can result in severe complications in case of rupture of velamentous vessels. A case of velamentous umbilical cord insertion is presented, in which no complications developed during delivery.
Material and methods: a  pregnant woman with full-term normal birth and spontaneous delivery is described, with velamentous umbilical cord insertion being found after birth.
Results: spontaneous delivery with no maternal-fetal complications all over the childbirth. Such a favorable clinical outcome could be due to spontaneous  rupture of membranes and to consistent monitoring by midwife over the whole childbirth process.
