Abstract

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is an acquired disorder presenting recurrent, inconstant and multiple organ symptoms caused by low exposure to diverse chemical substances. This syndrome has not yet been recognised as a disease in Spain. However, in advanced stages it can be incapacitating for the sufferer.
The purpose of this article is for nursing professionals to gain further knowledge on MCS by describing the physiopathologal mechanisms involved, the symptoms that patients may develop, the nursing care that might be implemented, the role of diagnostic tests, its relationship with other diseases, and the approach used in its treatment.
Improvement of symptoms depends on avoiding exposure to the triggering substances, as there is no cure at the present time.
