Abstract

We have made a retrospective and descriptive study about definitive pacemaker which has been implanted in the Arrhythmia Unit of the one Polyvalent Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for five years, from 1993 to 1997.

We describe patient’s age and sex, and the pathology, which makesnecessary to implant a pacemaker, the stimulation way, and the placewhere the battery has been set up.

The increasing development of this technique makes a necessary acontinuous recycling, not only for all medical staff who take care of thesepatients in the Intensive Care Unit, once the pacemaker has been implanted but also the rest of the sanitary staff who attend patients with pacemaker due to others different problems to the one which made necessary to implant it.
