Abstract

The protease inhibitors currently are fundamental drugs for the treatment ofHIV infection and to observe the prescribed dosage and timing is very importantto maintain their efficacy. The great load of pills by day, the possible secondaryeffects, the risk of interactions with other drugs and the complementary hygienic steps that need to be taken make the person fails to adhere thetreatment professional support is not available.

Most of HIV-AIDS patients in penitentiary institutions show behaviors indicativeof failure to adhere antiretroviral treatment.

Caring of this people only can be approached integrally given the characteristicsof the disease and the factors derived from the specific pshycosocial conditionof people in prison.

This paper shows an integral protocol for caring people with HIV-AIDS inpenitentiary insti-tutions which has been developed by the multidisciplinaryteam that usually work there.

The purpose of this protocol is to improve the adherence of these specificpopulation to the therapeutic regimen.
