Abstract
The aim of this Acute Pain Management Pediatric Unit is to treat thepostoperative pain of patients to reach an increase of their well-being, to recover their vitality and activity as soon as possible, with ahigher satisfaction of the patients and their relatives.
All over 400 patients have undergone so far through our Unit; theage average was of 6,6 years, between one month and eighteenyears, According to the age and the patient’s pathology severalprocedures have been used:
- Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) in 144
- Nurse Controlled Analgesia (NCA) in 206
- Epidural block in 50.
Several drugs have been used: Morphine for PCA and NCAprocedures, Bupivacaine with Fentanyl for epidural blocks.
All these procedures have been supervised by the AnesthesiologyDepartment of the Hospital Materno-Infantil 12 Octubre (Madrid).The control and monitorization has been performed by theAnesthesiology Nurse.
To the patients, parents or tutors information both a brochure andverbal communication during the anesthesiology consulting officeand in the pre-anesthesia-room were used.
The data are collected on standardized paper forms and in theinformative program.
