Abstract
Chronic peripheral arteriopathy, a condition whose incidence and prevalence are increasing, is an alteration of the function or constitution of the arteries, mainly affecting the lower limbs. It has both serious repercussions for the health of the individual and important socioeconomic consequences.
The echo-Doppler is considered the most suitable non-invasive diagnostic method to verify the state of the arterial circulation in the lower limbs, which can be quantified calculating the ankle/arm index.
The characteristics of this technique make it especially suitable for use by the nurse for primary health care at nursing clinics.
In this study the data obtained from the echo-Doppler of 113 patients with signs or symptoms of peripheral arteriopathy were registered and analyzed after having been obtained at consultations at a health clinic.
The main symptoms present in the patients have been related to their ankle/arm index, sex and age, and the importance of carrying out said technique at primary care nursing consultations is argued.
