Abstract

We present the effects of Education for Health (EfH) on the knowledge and habits of the participating population. The study was conducted at the "Centro de Atención Primaria de Torrente" (Primary Health Care Clinic) [Valencia]. The programme consisted of talking with nine individuals about their knowledge and habits, pharmacological and dietary, suitable for improving and maintaining the quality of life of hypertense patients. The points covered are contained in the Programme for Detection and Control of Cardiovascular Risk Factors of the Valencia Autonomous Community.

We have observed in the results that the changes experienced in the group of women is significant both for knowledge and habits, while the group of men was only significant in changing the dietary hygienic knowledge. The changes in the population group "with no further education" is significant, both in knowledge and in habits, while in the group "with further education", it was only significant in dietary hygienic knowledge. The change in pharmacological and dietary habits is significant in all age groups of the population.
