Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (R.A.) is a systemic and chronic pathological process. It is one of the main manifestations of articular inflammation, a clinical situation producing deterioration in the mobility and an important reduction in the quality of life of the person.

Nursing professionals have a key role in the care and education of these patients, both when in hospital and within the scope of Primary Health Care. For this reason, it is necessary to know the characteristics of the disease and the psychosocial factors that influence the responses of the people affected, in order that a plan of integral care can be applied.
