Abstract

Objectives: To determine the size of the nursing diagnostic "Tiredness in the performance of the role of care provider" (NANDA 3221) and to identify the factors associated with the diagnosis.

Materials and methods: Transversal descriptive study with 211 immobilised subjects from the Area of Melilla selected by simple random sampling. An interview was held with the principle carer as the method for collecting data. For the statistical treatment, descriptive and inferential statistical indices were calculated (Chi squared, Wilcoxon test, Pearson correlation coefficient).

Results: Mean age of the carer 52.96 + 16.05 (typical deviation); 87.8% were women with a predominance in primary studies and 53.7% had chronic pathologies. 47.5% presented "Tiredness in the performance of the role of care provider". Significant associations were detected between the physical incapacity of the carer and the problems of providing the care, as well as the presence of a positive test for depression. The lack of a secondary carer was also related with depression.

Conclusions: 47.5% presented "Tiredness in the performance of the role of care provider". The most relevant associations were established with physical incapacity and the cognitive level of the carer.
