Abstract

This study introduces the case of an elderly woman who was admitted to the Orthopaedic department of a hospital to receive a hip replacement. Given that this is a situation which frequently arises, the department has a pre-prepared standardised care plan for patients in this situation.

Even when this plan makes nursing work easier, the development of this case in particular illustrates the importance of performing an individual evaluation in order to detect any health problems the patient may have, and the necessity to ensure the continuity of care both in and out of hospital.
