Abstract

For an important number of patients admitted to pneumology units, inhalers form the fundamental base of their home treatment. Learning how to use such devices correctly should be an objective of the patient during his or her stay in hospital. Such a goal can be achieved through education imparted by the nurses. A retrospective study was carried out in which the cases of 168 patients were reviewed. These patients were chosen randomly, with a confidence interval of 95% and a P 3 0,05 from a total of 290 individuals.

Results: More than half the patients studied at the time of discharge were using the inhalers incorrectly. A total of 19,35% of the population could not comply satisfactorily with the treatment due to their physical condition. Lack of interest, difficulty in understanding and difficulty in learning are some other factors to consider when showing the patients how to use these devices.
