Abstract
The objective of this work is to analyse the efficiency of a conservative treatment for phimosis based on hygienic measures, regular retractions of the prepuce and applications of a topical steroid cream.
To this end, between November of 1997 and January of the 2001, 23 children under the age of14 with signs of phimosis were selected. All the patients belonged to a Paediatrics Attention Surgery.
The conservative treatment was completed by 20 children. Resolution of the phimosis was achieved in 17 cases, with a 85% success rate.
The regular retraction of the prepuce, together with the application of a steroid cream, is a suitable treatment for the management of phimosis, it does not present any side effects and avoids a high number of surgical interventions. In those cases in which the phimosis can not be resolved non-invsively, circumcision can be performed with absolute safety.
