Abstract

Vascular ulcers have a multicausal origin. Most ulcers are mainly caused by a deficit in the venous return and can affect up to 5% of the adult population. This article depicts the case of a 36-year old woman who suffered from a venous ulcer in one of the lower limbs for four months. The use of the Profore® compressive bandage system for treatment of this patient achieved complete cure in only 4 weeks after other therapies had failed to resolve the condition. The easiness of application of this type of compressive bandage, coupled with its durability (one week), and the fact that pressures allowing an adequate venous return at the level of the ankle are obtained, make it the method of choice in the treatment of ulcers of a venous aetiology involving the lower limbs. The decreased number of bandage changes results in substantial savings both in the material used as well as in nursing time.
