Abstract
The promotion of the use of the portable doppler-echocardiogram and the measurement of the ankle-arm index, within the Nursing consultation office in Primary Care, is the main topic of this bibliographic review. The interest in increasing the quality of patient care by means of these consultations, as well as the promotion of the nursing role, makes this simple technique a very useful tool within professional nursing care. The portable echo-cardiogram is a low cost, non-invasive diagnostic method that is greatly accessible to nursing practices, enables the performance of follow-up at the patient’s home if necessary, and provides a lot of information. Its many applications include its use in stratifying cardiovascular risk, in diagnosing peripheral arteriopathy, in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular ulcers, and in the management and follow-up of some chronic patients with diabetes mellitus or high blood pressure.
