Abstract
In the operating room setting, the use of X rays has made important advances in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. But this practice is not without risks arising from exposure to radiation to the health of patients and health professionals involved.
Currently, there are a number of rules and measures that when complied make it possible to work with ionizing radiation in the operating room safely and with minimal health risks.
The purpose of this paper is to contribute to safe and appropriate use of Rx in the operating room by reviewing the fundamental concepts about the nature of ionizing radiation, possible health consequences arising from their use and the main measures of protection to be taken.
