Abstract
Nursing professionals are directly involved in the entire process of providing patient care and their role is taking on progressively greater importance, good training being necessary so as to avail of sufficient know-how for dealing with this care by way of providing quality assistance. This study has been conducted for the purpose of contributing toward increasing the knowledge in this field and implementing better nursing care. To this end, a brief description has been provided as to the past evolution, the indications and the different techniques for performing a gastrostomy, focusing mainly on percutaneous radiological gastrostomy.
The experience of the Navarre Hospital Complex, the fast action protocol which was implemented in said hospital’s emergency service, the nursing care provided and certain monitoring advice resulting from serious consideration and nursing practices within the Interventionist Vascular Radiology service are all provided.
