Abstract
This paper is intended to design a Teaching-Learning Sequence (TLS) to offer students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge required to provide care to a patient with schizophrenia. To this end, an active teaching approach has been chosen, using as primary support the clinical case in the commercial film “A Beautiful Mind”.
This was implemented during the 2012-13 term, within the subject “Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health”, in the 3rd year of the Nursing Degree, at the Universidad del País Vasco.
Results show that the film “A Beautiful Mind” is a satisfactory tool for acquiring the above mentioned abilities, and at the same time it is
a learning method very well accepted by students. When the process was completed, 100% of participants claimed that they would repeat
the methodology. The experience obtained must be used as an incentive
to continue studying in depth those possibilities offered by active
methods.
