Abstract

Puerperal uterine inversion is a rare event, but very serious when it
occurs, thus representing an obstetric emergency.
The purpose of this paper is to provide information about uterine inversion, based on a clinical case occurred in our setting, and managed by two of its authors, with the aim to update the knowledge of healthcare professionals about the severity of this event, and train them for its early­ detection and treatment.
Puerperal uterine inversion is described, its etiology, clinical presentations, diagnostic methods and surgical medical treatment options. The case described involves a woman giving birth for the second time, after 41 weeks of pregnancy, in the Complejo Hospitalario de Jaén, and the key recommendations for managing this situation learnt as a result of this experience are provided.
