Abstract

Reiki Therapy is currently being administered in various centres from our National Health System, as a complement to conventional treatment. There is no current policy about this therapy or about the other complementary therapies; however, these therapies have been considered relevant by the World Health Organization (WHO). In the Hospital Guadarrama, in Madrid, Reiki Therapy has been implemented in an organized manner, providing a controlled and safe setting. This therapy is administered by trained Nursing professionals, and it is part of the healthcare plan for patients. Results show a significant improvement in anxiety, distress, fear, comfort, insomnia, and pain. The organized implementation of the therapy has been very successful, and well accepted both by professionals and patients. This article intends to make public the work currently conducted in the Hospital de Guadarrama, in Madrid, regarding Reiki Therapy implementation, with the aim of contributing to spread knowledge in this area, as well as its benefits for patient care.
