Abstract

The reception, attendance and classification of patients in the Emergency Unit (RAC) involves an adequate understanding by levels of severity of the health problem of patients from a care point of view, and their relevant classification and adaptation to the structure of the setting of care. One of its main objectives is to optimize the quality and efficacy of the Emergency department, in order to offer a better response to the needs of users, determining homogeneous and consistent scientific criteria about the need for care presented by a patient regarding their demand for care, and based on this, to implement the appropriate nursing interventions to ensure their safety. Therefore, the task of the RAC nurse is not only an efficient organization of demand through a fast interview and clinical assessment of the patient, but also, and not least important, to offer patients and their relatives or carers a human and professional approximation to the problem put forward as demand for care in all its context, ensuring their stability and comfort by providing emotional support and psychological help, to place patients in a positive therapeutic attitude, thus obtaining the best quality index possible within the set of healthcare services. The objective of this article is to reflect on the importance of communication in order to establish an adequate therapeutic relationship between professionals and patients at the RAC unit, trying to achieve their maximum safety.
