Abstract
Art Therapy can offer those persons with learning disability an enabling environment for the development of personal and interpersonal resources that promote an improvement in their quality of life. This is an experiential way of working, which does not need to involve verbal language; however, it involves putting into play essential cognitive resources regarding the processes of self-knowledge, self-determination and emotional regulation, and therefore it is useful as driver, enabler and promoter of change and transformation processes, particularly in those cases where the pathways typically used are not being effective.
This article examines the need of persons with leaning disability, and describes the contributions that can be made from Art Therapy regarding these needs, with the aim to increase the wellbeing and quality of life of these persons. Finally, this is illustrated with the description of a case.
