Abstract

Objective: to learn about the theses on school bullying registered in TESEO, and to identify certain general characteristics defining them.
Methodology: a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted on January 2021, analysing the doctoral theses on school bullying presented in Spain and located in the TESEO database of doctoral theses. Data were retrieved from the summaries of the different doctoral theses. Absolute and relative frequencies for each of the variables studied were calculated in the statistical analysis.
Results: traditional school bullying was studied in 70.1% of doctoral theses; there was a prevalence of the female gender in their authorship (70.1%). The University of Cordoba was the most productive regarding this object of study, presenting eight doctoral theses in total, which represented 10.4% of the total. 24.7% of the doctoral theses were directed by women, and there was also a prevalence of the female gender among the board members. The type of study conducted was mostly through quantitative methodology (46.8% were cross-sectional studies). In 33.8% of the theses, the study population was formed by secondary school students; the questionnaire was used for data collection in 14.3% of them.
Conclusion: this research represents the first study analysing the doctoral theses on school bullying published so far in Spain.
