Abstract

Objetive: to determine the level of self-transcendence and moderating factors that are related in the elderly who participate in adult senior clubs of Coihueco town.

Method: study of correlational descriptive type in a transverse direction of 153 elderly from 57 to 93 years. The instruments used were the self-transcendence scale of Dr Reed and a semi-structured questionnaire. This questionnaire has 10 direct questions of per- sonal and contextual characteristics.

Results: most of the elderly studied presented a high level of self-transcendence, only 4% has a moderate level of self-transcendence. The moderating factors that showed their relationship in this investigation were the age and social participation.

Conclusion: both the age and social participation are a weak positive trend with the level of self-transcendence.
