Abstract

Objective: to evaluate aspects of mental health and dispositional mindfulness in health professionals, nurses and doctors, in the COVID-19 context.

Method: a descriptive exploratory study conducted on a sample of 77 healthcare professionals. Sociodemographic and health data were evaluated, as well as stress, anxiety, depression and mindfulness data.

Results: healthcare professionals presented a high level of perceived stress, a past history of early stress, depression symptoms and anxiety symptoms in moderate and severe levels. Fear was the most widely experienced feeling. Mindfulness measures were negatively correlated with mental health deficiencies.

Conclusion: the mental health conditions identified in this study presented a challenging and worrying scenario, because they showed the need for actions to guarantee the mental health of health professionals and their cognitive and emocional efficiency in order to provide care during and after COVID-19.
