Abstract

Introduction: successful aging is defined as the entry of these older adults in this stage of their lives without disabilities, with high levels of cognitive, physical and social functioning and satisfaction with life. This research was conducted given the demographic growth of this population group. The objective of the study was to determine the successful ageing of the older adults from the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Methodology: a quantitative research, applying purposive convenience sampling to 167 older adults from the city of Guayaquil. The Successful Aging Inventory (SAI) was used, a validated instrument; its authorization and translation was granted by its authoress.
Results: the main results were that 67.06% of the study population had achieved successful aging. Some of the predominant dimen-sions were: purpose and satisfaction with life (4.47), spirituality (4.38) and functional performance (4.35), and to a lower extent ge-rotrascendence (3.94). The factor standing out among the intrapsychic factors was the ability of older adults when faced with problems (0.748), both in their attitude towards them and in their ability to solve them (0.715). Cronbach’s Alpha was 0,90, showing the internal consistency of the research.
