Abstract

This paper presents a literature search and review based on CINAHL, CUIDEN, BIREME, and SCIELO databases; searches were targeted to the spirituality concept in nursing practice. Searching keywords were: spirituality, nursing and nursing theories, and spirituality.
Moreover, the components are described and the concept evolution is reported for some models and nursing theories, so that an understanding of spirituality and its use for research and clinical practice is achieved.
Hopefully, the present literature review will help professional nurses to be ready for integral nursing care delivery, and to include spirituality in their practice.
Key words: Spirituality, nursing theories and spirituality, nursing practice.
