Abstract
Coronary artery aneurysms are an infrequent finding in coronary angiography. Its presence is usually asymptomatic; however, it can trigger or complicate acute cardiovascular events.
The purpose of this clinical case is to review the pathogenetic characteristics, clinical presentation and treatment of coronary artery aneurysms. Also, we highlight the crucial role of the nursing team in all the different steps of the procedure, especially when performing a thorough evaluation using the Marjory-Gordon functional patterns and when establishing adequate diagnostics and care plan according to the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC) and Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC).
The most relevant diagnoses generated in the care plan were willingness to improve nutrition, poor knowledge and acute pain. Regarding the diagnosis, the main intervention was health education with a focus on disease process, cardiac catheterization and pain control. The application of the nursing care plan has enabled us to offer quality care and solve clinical problems in this case.
